Family history in pictures
March 12, 2018
I am extremely honored and pleased, but also feel a huge responsibility when my friends ask me to take pictures for them. No pressure, right? =)
We met with Eugenia and Stas, and their daughter Eva at the most beautiful time of the day, close to sunset, in order to get famous golden hour lighting. We have chosen a beautiful Muriwai beach and got lucky with the weather, getting exactly the conditions I was hoping for.
Usually it takes a little bit of time for the family to feel comfortable in front of the camera and become their usual selves again. It is always easier when kids are around though, as they won’t let you keep straight face for too long anyways.
Eva was so adorable trying to get the sand off her feet, and her parents couldn’t stop laughing!
We spent about an hour and a half wondering around the beach, exploring the caves and rocks, searching for little crabs and observing wild birds. Muriwai beach is known for the colony of gannets (seagull looking birds, amazingly cool (but smelly) to see).
From my experience as a family photographer, in order to get great results and beautiful images from your photo shoot, it is very important to relax, have fun and enjoy yourselves. I know it may be easier said than done, but try to pretend that I am not even there.
Secondly, think about your outfits as a family. There are a lot variables – seasons, styles, body types, occasion and chosen location – and it is hard to offer one size fits all suggestions, but try to think about your family as a group, not about “Sundays best” for each person. I think Eugenia and Stas did a very good job in complementing each other’s outfit, with her floral flowy dress and his simple casual outfit. Eva’s dress was a beautiful cherry on top.
Finally, every time kids are involved, we have to take into account their routine – nap and sleep times, feeding schedule etc. Nobody wants to fight hangry toddler for the pictures! It is best to plan a session when you could reasonably expect your little one to be content, playful and cooperative.
I think we got some great images for this family to keep and I am hoping to document many more great moments for them as Eva grows and their family expands.
